And why is that then? because the catholic church wont let them marry even though the bible says nothing about it?and do you know why they are forbidden to marry?
In the old days when clergy tended to be drawn from the upper(wealthy)classes a priest that was married and had children would,on his death leave all his property to his kids thus preventing all that lovely loot from falling into the clutches of the church, so the pope had on a idea, stop the clergy from marrying so when they died all their wordly goods would go to the church, which is why the catholic church is so obscenely rich.
There was a good radio programme yesterday ("Banishing Eve") about the way the RC church destroyed the influence of women, which had been strong in early Roman xtianity. Women had played a big part in pagan religions, and expected to play as large a part in the new desert religion. They did so successfully for many years, with women priests and even the odd woman bishop. Then, as Mercian says, priests had to be male
and celebate, completely contrary to the teachings and intentions of JC. The papacy tried to suppress the knowledge that there had ever been female involvement in the priesthood; the presenter mentioned a gravestone in Rome which stated the deceased had been a woman bishop. The inscriptions had been crudely altered to change her name to a masculine one, and the feminine of "bishop". episcopa, to the male, episcopo. There was plenty more evidence like this that has been swept under the carpet by the papacy. One of the first ever popes even had a wife who was also a bishop!
The programme made early xtianity sound quite appealing - but the version foisted on us today is quite, quite different. "Jesus promised us the Kingdom, but what we got was the Church" as someone once said.
Anybody who worships, or even supports a god who implants sexual desires then threatens you with hell if you give in to these desires needs their head examined. The sick perversions of the papacy are the result of this repression; they have probably been going on forever, but can't be concealed any longer. Those poor young boys and girls, raped over the centuries by those in a position of trust over them. Ratzinger still hasn't got the point - as an authoritarian (ex follower of Hitler, ex leader of what used to be the inquisition) he obviously really believes he's infallible now that he's the Bishop of Rome. Get real, you old fool!
