Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable day.

Let's all raise a glass to the genuine patron saint of England. Think I'll rent a DVD, have a nice feast with the family and down a couple of beers tonight.

Happy St. Edmund's Day, SN - and to everyone else on this, the day of our true English Patron Saint.
"Physically she is also cast in that pure Anglo-Saxon mould which, as I have said, has made and still makes the people of the English Midland valleys the best-looking in England, perhaps in Europe. The Girls here are renowned for their good looks and my mother, in the days when girls really dressed like girls and looked like flowers, was one of them. I see all the special features of that fine Anglo-Saxon type not only in her but repeated also in my wife, my daughters and my grand daughters: the delicate bones, the fine soft skin, the blue eyes, the fair, light textured hair..."

- English author H.E. Bates, describing his mother - taken from the second part (The Blossoming World) of his three-part autobiography.

Yes, reflect on what's been lost - but raise a glass. He may yet be restored to his rightful position sooner than we think.
"We must create a climate of anti-nationalism and anti-racialism among whites. We must reduce patriotism and pride of race to meaningless abstractions and make race a dirty word." - Bolshevik leader Selenkov, Moscow 1922.
". . . And so the population was gradually led into the demoralizing temptations of arcades, baths, and sumptuous banquets. The unsuspecting Britons spoke of such novelties as 'civilization', when in fact they were only a feature of their enslavement." — Tacitus, Agricola, 21

"There exists a law, not written down anywhere but inborn in our heart; a law that comes to us not by training or custom or reading but from nature itself: if our lives are endangered, any and every method of protecting ourselves is morally right." - Cicero

If you can get hold of it, Greene King have produced a special Saint Edmund ale for St Edmunds day, I just got some from Morrisons:

Quote

Consequently when the British government declined the opportunity to reinstate St Edmund as a national patron saint, Suffolk County Council agreed to officially adopt St Edmund as the patron saint for the county.

Since the campaign was launched, a St Edmund flag has been produced and flown from flagpoles across Suffolk,Bury St Edmunds brewers Greene King produced a St Edmund ale and One railway named one of its trains St Edmund.

So what's the DVD going to be, SN? I hear there are some wonderful Bollywood films you can get on DVD these days.

Well if was down to me mate it would be a either a Clint Eastwood film, an English film etc, but seeing as it's up to the kids and the missus, it will probably be the Neverending Story :) As for the Bollywood films, I only need to nip down the road to the Trafford Centre to take in all the delights of that mate

The Neverending Story? Is that the one where the English are ignored and slagged off in their own country??
