I don't know why such a fuss is made over November 5th. Personally I wish someone would burn down the House of Commons today, but thats another topic! What I would like to suggest is that all of us loyal to the cause celebrate St. Edmunds Day with bonfires and fireworks. It would be far more appropriate and if Units of us could organise this we would get the St. Edmunds Day and ethnic English message across.

Understand what you mean about fireworks. But a bonfire and feast on St. Edmunds Day has to be something worth considering.

"Physically she is also cast in that pure Anglo-Saxon mould which, as I have said, has made and still makes the people of the English Midland valleys the best-looking in England, perhaps in Europe. The Girls here are renowned for their good looks and my mother, in the days when girls really dressed like girls and looked like flowers, was one of them. I see all the special features of that fine Anglo-Saxon type not only in her but repeated also in my wife, my daughters and my grand daughters: the delicate bones, the fine soft skin, the blue eyes, the fair, light textured hair..."

- English author H.E. Bates, describing his mother - taken from the second part (The Blossoming World) of his three-part autobiography.

Sounds good. But very little time to plan it. The best ideas are often the late ones though .thumbsup

I like to think of Bonfire Night as a poignant memorial to a near-miss rather than thanking God for the preservation of King James.

I'm game though - but fireworks, definitely fireworks.

I've seen a new building in Plumstead that'd make a wonderful St.Edmund's bonfire, especially the big minaret! .thumbsup

Take no notice everyone. Horses love fireworks. A Shetland pony will leap about for minutes at a stretch with a Catherine Wheel tied to its tail.

Sausages don't work.
